Aquileia

Aquileia is an ancient Roman city at the head of the Adriatic at the edge of the lagoons, about 10 km from the sea. It was founded by the Romans in 180bc. The site of Aquileia, is believed to be the largest Roman city to be excavated, and is a listed World Heritage site. The national Archaeological Museum is one of the most important museums of Ancient Rome in the world.
